Twitter Experience

Interacting with twitter has been a big help and wonderful experience throughout this course. I first started interacting with twitter because it was a popular social network that was fun to interact with fellow classmates and friends on. Now that I have included Twitter in educational ways, it has opened my eyes to great tips for my classroom, inspirational videos for teachers, and people who love educating our youth just the same as I do. Twitter has shown me ways to broaden instruction inside my classroom by integrating technology.

I could use Twitter inside my classroom in many different ways. Teachers can allow students to create a school friendly Twitter account to help them research current events and issues discussed in class. This provides students with a new way of researching information on educational topics, instead of using common search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing.  Twitter can also be used in the classroom to announce important upcoming events, such as, test, assignments, field trips, and projects. Making announcements through Twitter will keep students and the teacher on task and make a flexible schedule easy to access and it can also be used to keep parents informed about upcoming assignments.  Twitter is a great way to engage students in open ended discussions. Engaging students will increase motivation to learn especially in a subject such as science.

Twitter has become one of the main social media microblogging sites.  People are able to share their thoughts about different topics with so many others in an instant.  Currently the ability to stay informed and the access to quick information has become a necessity to many in today’s society.  Twitter gives its users the capability to stay informed and so much more.  As educators, it is vitally important that we are equipped with resources such as Twitter in order to create supportive educational networks as well as to help prepare our students for success.  I found Twitter to be useful as a source for learning new ideas, methods, and instructional strategies.  The interaction between so many educators and educational organizations using Twitter to collaborate and share ideas simply amazed me.  Using Twitter throughout this course, I have found many helpful people that are wonderful to consider following as an educator. Some of the followers I check daily are @Science_ed , @classroom20 , @coolcatteacher and @ALSciTeachers.

  1. ShaRetha,
I agree that twitter has great ideas on how to integrate technology in the classroom. Also, I like your idea about letting students use twitter as a research tool. Additional, I know it will be great tool to inform students, parent, and fellow teachers about different events and activities. Moreover, twitter is a great virtual tool of support.

  2. ShaRetha,

You have some great ideas about twitter. I think using twitter as research tool, making announcements, class discussions, and field trips are all great ideas. I hope I can continue to grow in technology as this class is ending with the information we have learned.
